Crossbow Mod
I have received some requests for Crossbow mods. Here's my tribute to everyone's favorite Nerf gun. The Crossbow I am using had already been modded with the barrel relocation mod when I wrote this. I tried to get some pics showing what you should do to complete this mod. But, the main mod that I'm offering is the PVC barrel mod. Everyone seemed to be saying that the original barrel was better than PVC. For stefans, it's not. This mod increases both range and accuracy with the gun.

Here is my gun before I started messing with it.

I originally used foam to keep my barrel in place. This is a good idea.

To relocate the barrel, take it out of where it is originally and remove the tubing from both the plunger tube and the barrel. Take the spring out of the tubing and cut it to about one inch. Slide the tubing back on the plunger tube and then onto the barrel and point the barrel out the front. You may have to cut some plastic to do this. Also you will have to remove the yellow piece that normally goes on the front.

Now on to the PVC. We are going to glue the PVC directly onto the plunger tube and do away with the original barrel and tubing. See that thing sticking up in about the middle of the picture? That blocks the PVC. I used a small saw on a Swiss Army Knife to remove it. A dremel would work better.

Make sure your PVC will fit in. It looks good, let's go cut the PVC! My barrel is 10 inches, because I didn't want it to be too long. The plunger tube on the Crossbow is so long, I bet you could almost use a 20 inch barrel.

Put hot glue on the end of the PVC and stick it on the front of the plunger tube. I recommend you do this while the tube is seated in the casing of the gun so that you can adjust the aim and get it straight. Put a little hot glue around the outside to reinforce it and put the gun back together.

Looks menacing, eh? :)

I recommend you reinforce the barrel exit with duct tape, as hot glue isn't that strong and we don't want to put too much stress on it.

This mod made my crossbow shoot a lot farther. As with many other plunger guns, rubber bands REALLY make the gun better. Go to an office store and buy the "big" rubber bands. The ones I got were colored. Take five of them and loop them together to form a chain. Put one end of this chain on the barrel, then pass it through the plunger's eye and loop the other end over the barrel. This lets you use more rubber bands, it lets you get them straight, and it lets you hold the gun normally. I actually recommend using two of these chains, but more than that makes it hard to cock.
